What about the Firestone 500? If not for those crappy tires shredding my uncle's navigator would still be alive today.

Not to stir a pot, but if Your were running Firehawk Indy 500's on a Navigator you were asking for a failure from day one. That tire is a Passenger tire designed for 4000lbs vehicles and less. A 6000lb vehicle without passengers will overload that tire and cause poor handling and failure. As you would with any other tire of similar specs.

That said I would be in the same position if I had a company product fail me I would not use them any longer either. Any failure sucks and when it causes collateral damage it is justifiable dislike.

Sorry for your issues. I on the other hand had bad experiences with BFG's. Radial T/A's were the worst tire I have ever owned in the rain on my Regal. I have had worn out tires perform better in rain then the two sets of BFG's I tried. Just goes to show we all have different luck or BAD luck with mfg's.

again please do not take as an attack, just a different experience

That whole Firestone vs Ford thing wasnt even Firestone's fault if you actually read about it. Ford lowered the air pressure in the tires for a better ride in the SUVs to 26psi vs the 35psi they were designed to have. With that out of the way I have never had issues with the BFG Radial T/As. My dad still has the tires he bought 13 years ago on his and they show no cracks at all. It's all in how you take care of them I guess.

My tire dealer will get any brand of tire I want. I have used all three (Cooper Cobra - Firestone FireHawk - BFG Radial T/A) in the past. It is hard to find a set of Cooper tires that don't bounce from being a little out of round. I was always satisfied with the FireHawk tires, but they quit making them in the size I wanted. I installed the Radial T/A tires on my last two cars and have been very pleased with them. I am an old guy that is past the need for performance tires, so can't comment on that aspect, but I love the ride and look of the BFG tires. I have been told that BFG became a part of Michelin a few years back

I run the bfg's 235/60/15 in the back 215/60/15 in the front, it's a good looking tire and I've had good luck with them, besides my uncle makes them right down the road. I run Bridgestone duelers on the truck and get about 85-90000 out of them, the wife's car is Michelin for the comfort ride and durability. Every tire has a purpose and a reason, some good some bad, if you want a performance tire then buy a performance tire, something that will match what it is intended for not a light passenger tire on an suv. The hot rod runs Hoosier 275/60/15 on the back and firestone 165s on the front. The firestone had a lower rolling resistance and the Hoosier had better grip at the track.
