So i recently decided that my attempt to build the ultimate modern 84 Hurst/Olds was falling short due to the Automatic transmission. Although the transmission from Freddy Brown we put in the car is bullet proof, there is no way that in todays times GM would have put a manual valve body auto in this car. Originally, I desperately wanted to keep the lightning rods in the car since this is a real 84 Hurst/Olds. But as I drove the car and realized how well this thing performs compared to modern sports cars...I was leaving so much on the table by having a drag race transmission in the car. So we are almost done swapping in a Tremec TKO 600 Extreme from American Powertrain. The transmission was sent to Astro Performance in Florida to have the EXTREME upgrade done so that it will handle the power and torque of this car (656hp/657tq). As you guys know, there is nothing really out there for doing this swap to these cars so we are learning and fabricating as we go.
And of course the shift lever and knob are Hurst so it really will be the modern Hurst/Olds and retain a touch of the lightning rods!
I'm sure plenty of you think its crazy that I butchered a clean 84 Hurst/Olds...but I love these cars so much and always wanted to keep the look and make it outperform a modern sports car.
Does anyone on here have any experience with the TKO 600 Extreme? I am really hoping that it performs the way that they say the Extreme upgrade does. Anyone else doing or done this swap? I will take some pics shortly. I would love to hear anyone's feed back and thoughts.

I love the thought as a fellow 84 H/O owner, make it happen sounds awesome.

Great job the only thing that isn't amazing is the boring steering wheel lol 8) , how much fun is it to bang through 5 gears?

Banging through 5 gears in this car with 656hp and 657tq is AMAZING!
as far as the steering wheel...it was a tough decision. The car is red and black on the inside so I didn't want to put something in that was out of place. Not many wheels fit the look. So I figured black and simple was a safe bet. A lot of the nicer lookig wheels just looked out of place in the ride so i followed the theme with the black dash and black wheels

Awesome car. Looks great, same here with the steering wheel, stock one would look better. But, you're running an olds motor do that makes up for it!!!! Good work !

Wow those power numbers sound AMAZING I cant imagine having that much power in mine. I was just teasing you about the wheel lol but it does match the rims pretty well. All in all great car well built.
