Ok im new to the gbody family I recently bought an all original one owner 84 cutlass with the 307 power plant has anyone built one of these and gotten good hp out of it or should I just put my old 403 in it and go from there?

The Olds 307 is a great motor for getting groceries but is not a good platform for performance. They are a small cube engine with poor head options especially after 85' with the crappy swirl port heads. You're better off starting with a 403 or 350 which will physically swap right in. Do a search on the topic and you'll find it has been beat to death.

Thanks and I know that with the 403 all the accessories will bolt right up now justa find a set of headers dont want to choke her to death. I appreciate the input man

Yep, if you already have a 403, by all means go for that. But keep the 307 incase the 403 happens to have a mental breakdown. Plus diehard olds guys use the 307s for 442 restos.

Enjoy your car - no mater what you want to do, do it on the side and when your ready for your swap down time is min. Good set of duals will be more than enough.

Thanks guys and hey one more saved right ,I couldn't pass this car up all original no rust and for $300 and some fuel drove it home, like I said im the proud second owner

I don't think headers are a cost efficient purchase with stock 403 heads. The exhaust ports very restricted from what I hear. Find some early 350 heads and do a cam swap.

Thanks man like I said I haven't messed with these olds motors much
