ok man that topic could go more ways then one. so we are talking engines here guys  :itchy:

so here we go. if you saw my rear end thread you might have noticed that i got a 4 bolt virgin block for $20. so i would like to go back with this build with this block instead of my .060 over 2 bolt block.

s0 that means ill be boring it out .030 over. and i will need new pistons regardless since you cant shove a .060 piston in the hole haha. so my question here is should i stroke this motor or keep it as a 355?

i plan on using the same cam since it is what i had the heads set up for.

heads are profiler aluminum 195cc w/64 cc chambers. they were setup for the cam above, pocket ported, bowls blended etc by chad speier of speier racing heads. the intake is a perforer rpm the was mildy ported, plenum divider milled down, and gasket matched to a 1206.

so should i go the extra effort and stroke it out or just build a 355?

whats the casting# on the block? (i did see the thread.)

keeping it .030 over is best. then you have cooling and strength issues if your running some real power.

It really comes down to cash and power.

me personally if its an 010 block I would either try to see it. or make it a 383 and go balls out.

I actually am building a 383 balls out. serious cash but will worth it for me

I say stroke it but with standard pistons if at possible if the block has to be bored .30 over due to wear thats one thing but if it will still work with standard pistons why not keep the extra meat in the cylinders and drive it that much further and harder. That is what i plan on doing when is my turn at bat.

I'm really wanting to stroke it. Just more money but then again what's a lil more time, I mean I haven't driven her in like 6 years. That and I already have over $1500 in the heads

casting # is a 3970010 Engine code is: K0618TJC which should be manufactured St. Catherines Ontario June 18, 1973. 350 4 bolt 160horse was used in c20-3500 (guessing a truck block)

also has 010 under the timing cover. so this means 1% more nickel if i believe.

but correct me if i am wrong

When you sit down and add up the cost of stroking vs just boring and moving on they are almost the same assuming you had to do a full rebuild. If you can use your rods, crank, from the other motor may be cheaper. If I could go back to before I built my 355 and instead built a 383 I would have. Unless you have parts laying around to use they are too close in the price range to not build the 383 and make more power.

No Replacement For Displacement. I say stroke it. Like what Chris.O said unless you got extra crank, rods sitting around you going to need to buy them anyways and its going to be about the same price. I'd sell that 350 that you already got as a shortblock and see what you can get out of it.

damn your mind's in the gutter....stroking it, rear ends, virgins, shoving it in the hole...
anyway, i love my 383, the low end torque is amazing and should help keep that cam streetable. but remember, the cam won't have the lope on the 383 that it has on the 350.

Stroke it. It will make that cam much more streetable enjoyable to drive. More torque/stoke will help with a heavier street car and not need as much converter or gear.

yeah well thats good because ill be running on a 3.42 unless i re gear down the road. glad i got that 8.5. now what do you mean not as lopey. i like some lope. i mean it wont sound like a stoker will it. you guys got some clips of your 383's?
