I've seen some posts here about torque converters and flash stall being a bit less than advertised. I'm getting ready to purchase my converter for the Blueprint 383. (BP38318CT1D) It calls for a 2,000 - 2.400 stall. I'm looking at the B&M Hole Shot converter #20412. It advertised a 2,400 stall for the longest time and now it says 2,500 stall. I'm Thinking it will work nicely but wanted to hear from some of you guys. Can't really go any higher in price but don't want one that is too cheap and not perform well with the engine.
Thank You for any help.

I have a similar blueprint 383 with 3.08 rear gearing and 26" diameter rear tires. Currently I have a hughes 2000 stall converter and it is a little tight for my liking. I would recommend calling a few torque converter companies for what they would recommend. They will need your cam specs, rear gear ratio at a minimum. My guess is you are going to land between 2500-3000 for a stall.

Blueprint is calling for a torque converter of 2,000-2,400 stall. My tire size is: 26.1 diameter. Rear Gear is: 2.28.

OOOF! 2.28 rear gear, any plans on changing that to something more enjoyable? Swap to a 3.08 or 3.42 and you will feel like you gained a ton of power!

There are plans for that. I like the freeway ability. I'll switch when the 4 speed automatic goes in. For now, They'll need to stay.

A stock converter & spending money on gears would be a better option. 3.31 - 3.42's would be decent w/o having an OD.

I do understand the gear change will give me much better "off the line" pick up and that is in the plans however, What about blueprint calling for a converter in the 2,000 - 2,400 range? I gotta do one project at a time and right now it's engine swap. Gear swap can be a project coming up soon. I actually do mind the freeway gears.

Since you plan on upgrading to an OD trans anyway, I would probably forgo the b&m converter and look for a 2004R trans and a D5 converter. The D5 stalls at between 2000 and 2500 depending on engine output. My stock 87 442 stalls at around 2000 to 2200 and the D5 in my brothers GN stalls at about 2500.

OD transmission with a lock up converter? 3500rpm minimum. Also get a very aggressive STR if you can its free power.
