THA D
OK I HAVE A 87 CHEVY MONTE CARLO LS IT CAME WITH A FUEL INJECTION V6 SO I DECIDED TO DO A ENGINE SWAP I FOUND A 96 LT1 BUT NO 4L60E I INSTALLED THA MOTOR (ONCE I GOT A TRANS) USING THA FACTORY WIRE HARNESS FROM THA 96 (BY PASSING THA PASS KEY CODE WAS EASY) SO LONG STORY SHORT I GOT IT RUNNING BUT TO MY SURPRISE WHEN I MADE MY 1ST PASS DOWN THA STREET SHE TOOK OFF LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL (WORTH EVERY PENNY AND SLEEPLESS NITE) BUT IT WOULDNT SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR SO ME AND MY BROTHER TRYED A FEW DIFFERENT THING NOTHING WORKED SO I TOOK THAT TRAN OUT AND INTALLED ANOTHER (2ND) NOW THIS TRANS DID SHIFT BUT NOT NORMAL WITH W.O.T IT WOULDNT UNLESS I GOT OFF THA GAS AND GOT BACK ON IT BUT WITH A NORMAL TAKE OFF IT MIGHT SHIFT ON A GOOD DAY (BOTH TRANS WERE BAD) SO IM TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO ANY SUGGESTS SUM SAY GO WITH A 700R4 SUM SAY TRY TO GET THA 4L60E TO WORK I LIVE IN DETROIT AND I HAD TO PARK THA CAR LAST YEAR AROUND THIS TIME DUE TO FUNDS (23 AND IN COLLEGE) BUT I GOT THA MONEY NOW AND IM REDOING SUM STUFF TO GET IT READY FOR NEXT SUMMER SO ANY BODY WITH SUM HELPFUL WORDS WOULD BE GREAT

punctuation and spelling would help greatly also.

1)what kind of trans is in the car now?
2)do you have, and is it properly adjusted, the proper throttle valve cable and bracket?
3)if you have a 4l60e in the car right now, you have to have the transmission computer/controller.

were you using junkyard transmissions? i never do trust them. the 4l60e is nothing more than a 700-r4 with electronic control instead of a TV cable. plus, some of the common failures in the 700 were updated on the 4l60e. i would suggest staying with the 4l60e but getting it rebuilt using hi-performance parts. Bowtie Overdrives builds 3 levels and their prices are alot better than any other good company that i've seen. or you could go to the 200-r4, that the monte originally had. it would still need hi-performance parts, but a built 200-4r will hold up better than a 700/4l60.

the 700's first gear ratio is 3.06, the 200's a 2.74. the 200 has a closer ratio gear to gear. this aids your overall acceleration.

stick with the 4l60e! as far as junk yard trannys, i have had excellent luck with them. you should be able to have a 4l60e rebuilt for a round 500 bucks if it is out of the car

I've picked up a few junkyard trannys but I always tore into them before dropping them into a car. It doesnt make much sense to install something that you havn't tore down. Trans rebuild are not too expensive. What costs is to pay a shop to R & R. But as far as junkyard cores go I've had good luck!
