hi guys had trans tore down yesterday....pan was clean no frags..converter is fine...clutches fine....but the pump gears were broken in half..anyone every had this to happen before?...my brother said he has had them to break on toyotas,,etc..other makes but not on a GM before..he said thepump housing it self is fine just the rotator(pump gears) busted now i know what that cliccccckkkkiiinnnng noise was when it stopped pulling...he said trans seems to have been rebuilt before but no clue on when it was done just that every thing looked great inside...he said he would leave it up to me to do a total build or just replace the pump parts...so i told him just do pump parts...also he has replaced the ROPE SEAL with the FEL-PRO NEOPRENE #BS 40613...I suggested not using the side pieces but the black sealant instead...but he said he has used the sides and nails before on many of these type rears with no problem...so i left it up to him...he also said the bearings are in great shape for the mileage thats on the car..hes going to replace the engine mounts on the car before he replaces the trans..one on drivers side broke....i need to know the best oil and additive for this time of year...would a 10W40 be to brawny for the winter..if so what do you guys suggest..and how many quarts...i seen somewhere VR1...thanks..😎

I would definitely do just the pump parts. You can get the upgraded pump vane and rotor kit. Stock is 7 vane, now they make a 10 and 13 vane kit. Check out this website for upgrades, I would recommend them: http://www.transmissioncenter.net/200-4R.htm
