If I swap my TH350 ,for a 400, could I still use my current (Iceman) crossmember and Lokar shifter ? And what about the driveshaft length ? I see the 400s listed with a 4 inch tailshaft where the 350 has a 6 inch. Is the 400 a longer trans?
As posted above, you have to find the right TH400 that matches your TH350 overall length. A TH400 uses a 32-spline yoke, so grab that when you find the trans (you may need an adapter U-joint to mate to your driveshaft). For passing, a TH400 is triggered by an electric switch mounted on the gas pedal instead of the TH350 kick-down cable. You'll have to fab a bracket on the pedal bracket or on the intake manifold that duplicates the mechanical switch point. In order to reuse your iceman crossmember, you need to move it back 4-5 inches (can shorten the mount pad an inch or so) to fit the longer transmission case. You need to move your frame mounts. I'm working on making some more of these. Cut one and weld one half to each frame rail. The nice thing is that if you later go to a 200-4R, this will also work.
