Transmission advice

I'd recommend Bowtie Overdrives as well, just for the reason of their proximity to you. They are extremely reputable.

Hey Guys I’m currently looking for a transmission for my 86 Monte 4.3L. Any advice on where’s the best place to find one. Are the ones at O Reilly’s or Autozone any Good ? Or should I just rebuild? TIA

I personally would stay away from auto parts places. They get their trannies from the cheapest bidder so they can maximize their markup. Jakes 87SS has good advice. Find someone local and pay them to do the job near you. If there is a problem with the trans, you know where to go to poke someone in the chest. On the other hand, I bought a 2004R rated to handle 550 hp to put into my 79 Malibu. It is going behind a stroker that I built about 10 years ago and never ran. I always thought the 2004R was a pos but my research while looking for a trans convinced me otherwise. I think I payed about $1200 to get it delivered to the house with a 1900 rpm stall torque converter included. The combo goes into the Malibu sometime this summer. I bought the trans about 6 years ago, so prices may have gone up some but that is another option if you plan on making mad power down the road.

Good luck either way.

Parts store get usually less than $100 for the typical rebuild, for the higher end 120-150 (over 2250+)

Not downing the parts place. Just saying that they don't do the work themselves and depending on who supplies them with the replacement trans, you may not get what you expect. Personal experience. Still go the T-shirt.
