transmission arm hitting header collector

Ran into a problem while hooking up my shifter cable.I've noticed the transmission arm is hitting the header collector when it is put into gear,has anyone else run into this problem.The transmission is a th-350 btw.I am thinking of grinding down the arm a little to clear the collector.Really need some help with this.

looks awful familiar :lol: I have the same headers and same problem with my th250, it won't go down into 1 or 2. I was thinking the same, or even bend the arm just barely enough to clear.
 
it is the factory one,i'm either thinking shorting it by cutting it in two and taking a little off to make it shorter and than welding it back together or grind a little off the bottoms.
 
Have you tried bending the arm? I think as long as you make sure the arm doesn't touch the trans in all gears it'll be ok. Not sure why the cable hookup is on the driver side of the arm on that one though. Mine looks as it's on the trans side of the arm...
 
I noticed a black cable running under the starter

..do you have a dust shield as well?
 
From the pics you posted, I'd try to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Header collector gaskets leak and the flange takes up too much space. I'd cut the ridge off the end of the header and do away with the 3 bolt flange. Then I'd get a tapered 3" to 2.5" collector extension and spot weld it to the header or run a band clamp. Eliminate the gasket leaks and might just give you enough added clearance for the shifter mechinism.
 
I thought about suggesting modifying the header as well, but not everyone likes to weld. If it were my car and the bracket change didn't fix the problem, I'd cut that whole collector off and make up a new one angled away from the trans a bit more.
 
I agree about the welding. That's why I also suggested the band clamp and header extension. Just slip the extension on and tighten down the band clamp to seal it. Not only does it make for a leak-free seal, it makes removal easier if you put anti-seize on before installation. The spot weld I suggested was to just hold it in place, not to weld it solid.
