If you are really dead set on switching over sell the El Camino you own right now and buy one with a auto trans. That way your not hacking a good rare 3 speed El Camino

the 3 spd Elcamino's really that rare, Mine is 1981 229 c.i. 3.8L that originally had a factory floor mount 3 spd but was converted to a far more fun 4 spd.

There is a Junk yard near me that has 2 of them sitting with Factory Floor mount 3 spds in them. But for the topic I would definitely stick with the 3 spd.
