Wasup. Not to good on this side. Yesterday I might have burnt my 200r. Last week I replaced my radiator because it was leaking. Drove the car maybe twice since then and yesterday wasn't to kind. I was coming home and the trans seemed to rev a little higher than it should have been. I pulled over, got out, and heard some sounds coming from my transmission. Sounded like swelling and pinging sounds...didn't sound good. I opened the hood to check the trans fluid and noticed there was trans fluid near the overflow coolant fill tank. I looked inside the fill tank and it was filled to the brim and red...dammit. The trans dip had white foamy stuff on it. Advance sold me a faulty radiator. Evidentually, something went wrong in the radiator and the trans fluid and coolant mixed, not allowing the trans fluid to make it back to the trans. Long story short, got tow home, didn't drive. Think trans is still cool? I replaced the radiator today, and I'm gonna change the trans fluid and filter tomorrow. I drove it into my driveway, slowly, so at least 1st and Reverse are still working. Hope I caught it in time.

Re: Transmission Might be Trash

Lucas makes a trans additive?

Re: Transmission Might be Trash

I'd say the trans should be ok, seeing as how you caught it in time. No coolant got in the trans, because it has a higher operating pressure than the cooling system, as you noticed. I'd still change the filter and drain as much fluid as possible. Since Advance sold you the rad., maybe they can pick up the tow and service work. What brand rad. was it , anyway? If there's transmission damage, maybe go after the manufacturer for some retribution. That white foamy stuff was just aerrated trans fluid from the low level. Good luck.

Re: Transmission Might be Trash

Drained trans fluid, changed filter, added Lucas to fluid, and topped off with trans fluid. I even added a drain plug to my trans pan. I also flushed the trans fluid from my coolant system. Crossed my fingers and started it up. Everything seems to be OK. Drove around block a few times and I think I caught it just in time. 😀

Trans died today on the way home. 4 miles from my house, thank God. I guess the bad radiator did a job on my trans and it was just a matter of time. Lost all gears and fluid smells well done. Oh well, guess I'll be making a trans swap now.

Ordered a 350 with a shift kit off ebay and gonna hopefully get it in this week. Wish I could've got one of the rebuilt and beefed up 200-4r's, but my $$$ ain't that long right now. So, I'll go with the 350 for now. Should the linkages and mount be a direct swap for the 200-4r?

the mount will be different, the linkages are dfferent and the 350 has a kickdown cable where the 200-4r has a TV cable. depending on how smokin' of a deal you got on a 350, i'd say to have your 200 rebuild at a local builder.

I can get a mount from AutoZone for around $10-20(anyone know the item# or year mount?). I put on a Lockar TV cable for my 200-4r because I put in a Chevy TPI 350 engine. The cable is interchangeable with the th350, so that shouldn't be a problem. Paid $400, shipped for the trans...way better than $1200 for the 200-4r. So, the only problem you say will be the linkage? Will the linkage be too short or too long?
