I have the stock transmission in my car it is a th350c, ive been looking at stall converters and am curious if I need to get a lock up one or if i can just get a regular th350 stall converter

lockup all the way. The other kind wont fit

oh and it cant be from a 700r4, I think it can only be the Th350C one.

i bought a 2500-3000 th350 stall at a swap meet and it only stalls at 1800-2000 but it fits just dont know if its not stalling correctly because i have a th350c

The th350c has an extra "stub" sticking out of the input shaft, if it has been removed, the regular th350 converter can be used, however you lose the lock up. The stall speed will vary depending on how much torque your engine produces, the more it puts out, the higher your stall speed will be (that's why it is a range 2500-3000). Rear end gears also play a factor in this, for instance, my car with 2.41 gears with a 2100 stall, used to kick in at about 1700rpm, when I put the 3.73's in it jumped up to the advertised stall speed (round about). Another thing with this, are you doing a brake stand when you check, or are you just taking off? Like was said previously, if that stub has not been removed, the regular th350 converter physically will not fit on properly, not engage the front pump, and by chance if you can actually bolt your trans to your engine, you car will not move. Check over what you have carefully, you may have bought a 350c converter, or someone may have lobbed off the end of your input shaft.

well i dont recall seeing a stub in the shaft and im 99%positive im the only one who has been inside the transmission im the second owner previous was a 70y/o lady who drove it once a week and only had 70,000 miles on it. is it possible it came from the factory without a 350c but just a regular 350? as far as the motor its a 350 .060 over flat tops all aluminium top end 210cc heads .525 lift cam 1.6 rockers and 4:10s in the rear end, i do foot break and i gotta stand on them to hold the car but it wont hold past 2000. everything went togrther fine and bolted up fine so im wondering if the stock transmission is a 350 or350c

Two things to look for, 1 is the stub, it sticks out about an inch or so from the output shaft, 2: 4 pin elctrical connector on the case. If neither is there it could be either a th350 or th250 (look identical externally).

well it does not have the stub but it does have the connector

Odd........Hard to say what has been done there, maybe early on it went for transmission work, and someone switched to a non-lockup input (used parts) to save money.......I've seen stranger.

but would it stall any different betveen the 350 and 350c
