So here's my update. I got the trans back. Its not an exact match, its a BCF that he added a shift kit to. I'm not thrilled, but at least the car moves again. The speedo is off, (he'll be correcting this), and the torque converter is my original that was sent out and rebuilt, and its now making noise so it's gotta come out again and get replaced. This has not been a great experience, the only good is that I'm getting my original trans back from the shop, and when this one dies, I'll try rebuilding that one myself. Thanks for the replies, I've learned alot from you guys. Anyone want to come by and drop this trans for me? I'm not up to doing this again yet....

Sorry to hear about this 86 but at least you're getting your original trans back - I'd ask to see what was really wrong that made it unrepairable. I agree with Dogsh!t and Meg, you really have to do your homework and have everything in order on a 200-4R even when you take it to someone to have it rebuilt. Can't help with the trans swap, I'm in the middle of an engine swap on a '97 "Monte Carlo" for a buddy; we should have it buttoned up by the weekend. Between this and tearing down / putting the truck back together been hella busy.

Dogsh!t, sorry to hear about the 442 as well - damn shame the new owner is abusing it that way, letting your hard work go down in flames. Just be grateful he's not blaming his stupidity / ignorance on you or others, as most people like that do.

Ok, well here we go. Now I know I have to take the trans back out and use the warranty. After taking the car on its first 'real' drive since getting the trans replaced. I now have horrific grinding in 1st, 2nd and reverse. The car won't even creep forward at idle now the trans is so tight in first gear. I guess I can say that I'm becoming quite an expert at transmission removal and replacement, so that's something, right? I guess I'll be letting you all know how good Toms River Transmission is at warranty work. At least now I can make sure the right speedo gears are put back inside this time. Next time I know to go to a shop to have this work done...
