I have a 2004r in my car and having a issue with it shifting from 1st to second with the shift selector in drive. It shifts fine when the selector is in 2nd. It wants to skip second gear all together otherwise. Tried adjusting the tv cable but still does it. Any help will be appreciated.

Is the vacuum line hooked up? Also you may want to check your linkage it may be off just a hair when you put it in drive, last but not least oil and filter check / change. Thats where i would start

does it rev in first and not want to catch second ( 2 gear band in the trans is likely toast )?
Or does it bog and quick shift from first to third ( tc selenoid sticking )?

Or something different altogether ?

It skips 2nd all together but holds 2nd if I shift it from 1st to second manually.

x2....and pull the line off the modulator valve on the transmission to see if the diaphragm is leaking. If there is transmission fluid in the vacuum line or on the port on the valve then the valve is shot

I would but the 2004r uses a tv cable not a modulator.

I thought it was the 350...the 2nd gear in the 200 4r uses a band and there is no adjustment to it

Any luck with the transmission?. it's too bad I wasn't closer to you, I have access to an 85 GN 200 4r that I could get to you for a good price

It skips 2nd all together but holds 2nd if I shift it from 1st to second manually.

I was having a simular problem when I first had the trans rebuilt. The car would accelerate normally from first then I could feel it grab second them immediately third when left in Drive. But when kept in second the car would shift normally thru first and into second. In my case the springs were too weak ( discovered when setting up the governor weights). A replacement GN Spec governor and weights solved my issue.

My car though you could feel the engine bogging when it caught second then third at such a low speed/rpm
