one of my good friends gave me a brand new autometer phantom elec trans temp gauge. how should i run the sensor? it came with some adapters and says it may need to be drilled and welded in pan. i am running a b&m deep transmission pan with drain plug. how should i go about mounting the sensor? thanks in advance guys
i believe i am going to try and run an adapter into the drain plug hole as it would be the simplest route and i would loose the least amount of brand new B&M Trick Shift.
If your pan is like my TCI pan the drain plug is on the bottom instead of the side, if this is the case you might want to watch cleareance. Esp. if you have a deep sump pan, you wont have much clearence under there. But as far as mounting it should be fairly simple, it should come with a larger adapter, and if that doesn't fit most parts stores sell different thread pitch adapters for it.
i have a deep sump pan but it doesnt fall below my frame. yes the plug is on the bottom of the pan. now i just need to find where to mount the guage at. i have a pillar pod which i think i am going to sell because it only fits 2 5/8 guages not 2 1/16
Get a double A-Pillar gauge pod. I'm assuming your Autometer Trans gauge is 2 1/16" ? That will make it easy to read and mount. Just run it under the dash and through a firewall gromit. Should not be a problem.
? I didn't know you already had another cluster... You could run an engine oil temp gauge? Fuel presure? Or just by a single gauge pod. They make them too, that might be a better idea since you already have 3 aftermarket gauges.
well i have a 2 5/8 single pod that i need to sell, i was originally going to put a small tach in it but changed my mind. i like the 2 pod cuz it replaces the whole trim piece as mine is kinda toast anyways. anyone want a 2 5/8 single pod to fund my dual pod haha
First, I suggest you just drain your fluid and save it. Take that pan off and drill the proper hole in the side, and get that sensor mounted proper. Than you can put your fluid back in. Might be a little work, but better than going over a speed bump and having your sensor ripped out, if it even clears on the inside of the transmission that way.
As for a second gauge, go for a vacuum gauge. It can help with tuning, and help with fuel economy.
