transmission?

Yeah, as much as I hate to admit it, even I can be wrong at times. Usually though, I try to post things I am certain of and have good sources on if I state them with confidence of correctness. I don't like to loose any argument and won't normally take one on unless I am at least 95% certain of victory. I also hate when wrong information is propagated in forums as I search forums when I am researching a new project idea because there tends to be more real world experience on them due to people like me who love to correct inaccuracies. ( When I am really bored, I flag commercial posts on the By Owner section of the cars for sale part of Craigslist, just for fun)

Here's a few things I'm sure of...

Many early 2004R transmission are B-O-P only bellhousing, not universal. Mostly from 82-84, and usually they come from the bigger cars, the delta 88 and buick park avenue with the 307.

I have one in my 80 Cutlass and it came from an 82 delta 88.

There is one slight problem with using a Buick/Olds torque converter in a Pontiac/Chevy engine or vice-versa...

The Buick and Olds engines use a flat faced back on the flywheel where the torque converter bolts up. There are usually square blocks or round blocks welded to the torque converter and threaded to the bottom. The Chevy and Pontiac engines have raised up sections on their flexplates that usually fit against flat tabs which are welded to the torque converter with holes drilled in them. They usually use bolts and locknuts for these.

Sometimes the snout of the torque converter doesn't sit properly in the back of the crank when you line the bolt holes up to bolt the torque converter to the flexplate. Just make sure everything goes together nicely with no binding.
