i was driving home from work last nite, when i notice/ heard my transmission not wanting to shift in to second. it's the original th350, and i have not done anything to it sense i got the car. i'm clueless when it comes to transmissions, does anyone have any suggestions?

First check your transmission fluid and make sure it's on the full line.If that's ok it could be the transmission modulator, look underneath the transmission on the passengers side and look for the modulator sticking out the side and check to see if there is a vacuum line hooked up to it, and if it is, check all the way up the hose to the carb and make sure that this line is not cracked or broken. If the modulator doesn't get any vacuum it won't shift into second too good.

if you don't know when it was last changed you might want to change the transmission fluids and check to see if the filter is clogged....personally whenever I purchase a vehicle that I'm going to be driving I never rely on what the seller says about when the fluids were last changed, I change the oil, tanny fluid and diff fluid and use the oil/grease of my preference and then I don't have to guess when they need to be changed.

With more than 150,000 miles on the car, what transmission oil should i use?

What does the fluid look like? If it looks brown, smells burnt, it possibly could be original. I have been told by more than a few transmission guys that it is not a good idea to change fluid that old, it could possibly cause the trans to completely fail. It wouldnt be a bad idea to take it to a trans place, most of them have free diagnosis, estimates.

Definately make sure that vacuum line is still intact, like the one person said it does control shifting.

after i got home from work, i checked and it looked redish. When i get a chance, i'm going to get under it and look at the transmission. [/quote]
