Here's a 442 wheel which matches the above pic. IIRC, the ONLY difference between the 14" and 15" wheel was the width of the band where the valve stem goes which made the 1" difference. And the width, obviously. But the shape didn't change, and they both used the same center sections.
I believe the painted 15" units used the same rim, just not chromed.
The back spacing is different between the early and late wheel. The center being pushed back on the rim makes it look like there is an extra step. It's there on both wheels, just looks more pronounced on the deeper late wheel. Perhaps the early trim ring would work but leave a little extra space between the trim ring and center. Would still like to hear from someone who has actually tried it, and hear how it worked.
