The trunk release switch in my cutlass doesn't work what is the most common problems with this??? Where should i start looking to fix it????

just shootin in the dark but maybe a fuse that is out?

The chassis manual for my Regal (it's probably very similar) shows this for the trunk release:

25 amp fuse in fuse block ------2BRN--------release switch----2BLK-----release solenoid

It also indicates (strangely) that it's only hot in run, bulb test, or start.

Yes its only hot when the ignition is on. Also if its not a fuse try unpluging the button and testing the wire if it has power and if it does then jump the wire to the otherside, if its still nothing might be your selinoid is bad.

Ya, GM went overkill trying to protect trunk access... I can understand to some extent being hot in run (but if you lock the doors, what's the point)... and being in the glovebox is just a silly spot - who locks their glovebox?

I added a PT to my car and put it under the drivers seat w/ a constant 12V source. I use it all the time as it's much more convenient - I can even reach it from outside the car.

And yeah... hope it's the fuse or the solenoid. My trunk release doesn't work - I get current at the button but not at the solenoid so there's a break in the wire somewhere between the glove box and the trunk. Not looking forward to tracing it.

Every G-body I've ever seen with a power trunk, it was always on. Mine is that way now, and that's how I remember every other one.... Was this a year-change thing or ?

Strange - I've never seen a GM one on a constant 12V source...

That's how i've always seen them wired direct, power always on! I don't like that idea. So when some punk breaks into your car, he has easy access to all your stereo equipment in the trunk!

Maybe this was a year change then... My parent's 87, as well as my 84 had them on a switched source. Those that have seen constant source - what year were the cars?

...I wired mine direct, but I'm not worried about people getting in my trunk - other than some cheaparse tools and a spare tire, there's nothing to be found. Definitely not something you want if you have a nice stereo or something. The switch is also in an unconventional place that they likely wouldn't notice...
