i am putting C5 corvette front brakes and wheels on my 87 monte ss. i already have the mid 70's F-body spindles need for the swap. do i need to change the upper a-arms? are there any relatively inexpensive tubular upper a-arms that will work correctly?

I have a set of Global West arms and they seem to be nice quality. They have an extra cross brace on them as compared to the Hotchkis arms, but I think they were a little more money. I haven't installed them yet as I have not bought the spindles, rotors and calipers yet. How are you using the C5 calipers on those spindles? Is there an adapter bracket available?

go to KORE3.com they have really nice and relatively cheap conversion kits to C5/C6 front or rear brakes.

Thanks! I will! I really want to get away from these old school single piston calipers if I can do it cheaply.

*EDIT* It's not that bad of a price, but still not cheap. How much did your setup run you and did you get used calipers or new?

i'm getting the whole kit with the billet hub so about $900. i meant cheap compared to other companies who charge well over a grand, and the performance is about the same. plus this way replacement parts are easy to get.

all the calipers from Kore3 are new. they are connected with PBR of australia who makes the GM 'vette brakes.

Don't forget to check out www.scandc.com Thats where mine came from and couldn't be happier. Alum spindles from the Vette, shorter steering arms, plus the C5 brakes r nice for auto-X.

i have been hearing lately that the tall spindle swap may not need control arms to work correctly. maybe the companys selling them just want us to think that??

i'm pretty sure that you can do the swap without changing the upper control arms. BUT, it's going to throw off your alignment and you may have a problem with the upper ball joint binding(especially if you lower the car too).
