Thanks. The routing of your cold air kit is interesting. Nicely done!I run it in my 88 s15 Jimmy 350. Engine runs great and good low end torque. Ive owned the truck for 22 years and this setup has been in there since 2002. View attachment 132031View attachment 132032
I know they're dated, but I have a complete unit sitting on a shelf and a fresh roller cam 355 to go in my Elco. My concern is that I remember from back in the day that other than stock camshafts will trigger the knock sensor. I was originally going to use an Air Gap and a 600 Holley. My engine is very mild, camshaft specs say 1400-5800 rpm. Are there any threads in the archive for TPI swaps? I can't find a Search button.
I'll 2nd that. I remember reading a statement in a magazine once, years ago. "The TPI is one of the best truck engines ever made." I know it was a backhanded dig, but actually not far off the mark. Outstanding torque characteristics but not too much for top-end. Perfect for a cruiser. Maybe not the most trendy now but old enough to carry nostalgia cred. Reliable, good MPGs, and they look good.A little late to Ronny's inquiry, but .... the TPI is now dated and not used much, or even considered for that matter, in performance builds only because of the lack of 5000+ rpm power. But for a cruiser/tire burner, I'm not aware of a better intake setup either OEM or aftermarket for a Gen 1.
You have to make sure you get the chip reprogrammed. I ran a TPI based setup for years, and never had a knock issue, even with the Holley stealthram and raunchy cam in my old 355. If the block wouldn't have cracked I'd still be running that setup, and still have the intake setup with fuel rails, distributor, coil, etc. If you need any of the efi stuff let me know, I think I have a couple sensors, even a 3 wire heated o2 sensor too.
