So after posting a joke on here about taking the turbo off of a 1990 Jetta 1.6L Turbo diesel I have sitting in my driveway, it kinda got my head spinning. Here's what I'm thinking about doing.....

Swapping the exhaust manifolds left to right so the exhaust exists forward, fabricating the plumbing to two stock turbos off of Jettas (future brother in law is a VW mechanic and has a couple turbos sitting around). Other than that the engine will remain stock execpt for the mild cam, edelbrock intake and holley four barrel on it now. I'm thinking of using a blow off valve to maintain 6 to 7 psi of boost.

It's not meant to be the most powerful thing on the street. Hell I'd be happy if it even runs well. Just mean to be something no one else has done.

Sadly, VW used a very undersized turbo on most of it's cars that was too small even for the tiny engine it was feeding. This is especially true of the 1.8T, but I imagine is also true of the diesel. So, you would likely need 4 of them to improve performance on a typical GM V8. A better choice would be some sort of Garrett T-3 turbo from an 80's or 90's application. They use a popular flange which would be available to purchase and build an adapter from.

Anyone know the specs or make/model of the VW Diesel turbo? It should be better than the gas turbo because diesels require ALOT more air for proper combustion than a gas engine. Also, the diesels live under alot of boost, upwards of 20 PSI. I was thinking they would be slightly undersized as well, just wish someone knew some of the specs on them.

the easiest way to find the info is probably http://forums.tdiclub.com/index.php
in general though they are garret turbos. they push alot of boost pressure, but not a heck of a lot of volume, i'm sure they'd work but i don't think it'd do much.
