UGH... I Hate Snow

I like to move out of NJ to someplace that is warmer and has cheaper taxes. However, moving is easier said than done.
I know its not easy but how old are you ? Ive been telling my son to leave NY since he got married a few years ago and not fall into the same rut Ive been in my whole life. My son and his wife are radiology techs. They can work anywhere. NY and NJ both suck. High taxes. Houses are a fortune. My neighbors across the street from me just put their house on the market last Thursday. $459K for a 3BR house on 1/3 acre built on a slab. One day open house and it looks like they have it sold for over the asking price. The youngest son told me theres a few people bidding on the house. Theyre going to Mooresville NC. Their oldest son is there already and he loves the area. Its a good time to leave. Especially if youre young.

Mid 30's so not real old yet. I lived here in southern NJ all my life so at least I am familiar with the pros and cons, even if the cons outweigh the pros anymore. Moving someplace new means there are a lot of unknown variables, besides the cost and even risk of downsizing. Plus my family has lived in the area for generations. At the same time I don't know how long I can stay in NJ even if I wanted to as things are degrading fast. No matter what its a big decision to move.

My son and his wife are both 30. The issue here is the housing market is out of control. Its sad when you cant buy a house in the town you grew up in. He can afford the price of a house but then you need to figure in over $1K a month for property taxes. Thats no way to live.
Im 66. I stopped work in '08 due to an injury but it wasnt too bad since my wife was still working at the time. My house has been paid off for years so we were able to survive without a problem. Now Im officially retired. To be honest I want to move to a cheaper area so I wont just be surviving financially. I'd be really happy to have a little extra to play with. Plus if my son leaves theres no way I'd want to be any distance to him and the grandkids when they start coming along.

Most of the time I dont mind snow .Even when I work out in it .And with the variety of vehicles I have driven in it.(From regular vehicles to semis .Its the others who dont seem to be able to drive in it .Especially those with 4 wheel drives .They may have more traction than the rest of us .But stopping is the same,

To add to our weatherman’s ability to completely fubar a forecast - they predicted a low of 20-22 last night and a high in the mid 30’s today. That was the forecast at approx 4-6pm last night.

This morning I get up - 2, yes 2 degrees. It might see 20 today. ‘We might get get 12-20” ‘ and we get 45.

Morale to the story - tell your kids to get into the weatherman field - job security is high because none of them ever get ash canned for being wrong or not even close to right .

When my kids were old enough to drive the first time it snowed I took each of them to a large snow covered parking lot and let them to donuts for almost 45 minutes in my truck. They both learned how it feels to lose control on a snow covered surface. Not that it will prevent them from getting into a skid or losing control of their vehicles but at least they have a good idea of how to react. Since we usually get a decent amount of snow every year everyone in my family has a 4x4. Especially since my wife and kids would be considered essential workers. There were many days that my wife drove home from working in the ER through some pretty deep snow. Now its my son and daughters turn. I worry more about them getting hit by someone that doesnt have a 4x4. Especially young women in small cars. For some reason they have no f'n clue on how to drive in a snowstorm. SMH
