I would like to know the steps needed to update my current bucket seats to a pair of 04 Grand Prix leather seats. I got a good response from 86 Grand Prix but i've been waiting almost an hour for my second pm message to send>>>??? So i figured this would be faster so 86 Grand Prix please reply to this post, as I have another question for you.
Already sent a PM. The old G-body tracks will bolt to your new seats but you will have to use something to make the difference up in the width of the bolt pattern. The newer seats have a wider pattern. I bolted 1" X .25" steel flat bar to the seat frame and then to the G-body tracks. The wiring was real east, match color for color from the newer seat switch to the g-body motors. The width is critical. there is no extra room so measure carefully.
I just picked up these nice 04 GP leather seats and I need some installation knowledge as how to install them in my 84 GP. I got some useful information from 86GrandPrix but I am still not quite clear as to what I need to do. I know that I have to put my tracks on the new seats but that's a little complicated since these seats are powered and mine are not.Any help/knowledge would be appreciated.
The passengers seat isn't powered so it doesn't look too hard, but the drivers seat is powered and heated (not that i will be using heat) and has a lot of moving parts which i can't interfere with.
It doesn't have to be seats for a Grand Prix, anybody that changed their factory buckets from another year car/model that could tell me how they did it would be a great start.
I stripped all of the seat tracks that came with the factory 2005 seats and trashed them. I used 1" X 1/4" flat bar across the seats in the front and rear to make the difference in the bolt patter work and installed the tracks from the G body seat tracks on the newer seats. Like you said the passenger is relatively easy since it was non powered. The drivers seat I used the old seat tracks and motors and bolted them to the newer seats. The wiring is easy. The 2005 seat switch wired color for color to the g body motors.
Thanks 86 Grand Prix, looks like you're the only one to talk to about this subject. When you say you trashed the tracks from the newer seats, did you unbolt them from the bottom of the seats and trashed the whole setup? Or did you just remove the left and right sides? Is that star bolt the one to remove just the tracks? Or did you unbolt the whole thing from the bottom of the seat? My current 84 seats don't have motors, they are not powered so I still need to keep the 04 GP seat motor which is all connected to the track.
I guess i'm getting the track mixed up with the brackets. I need to keep the original track for the new drivers seat because it is electric but I need to get rid of the original mounting brackets. My install is a little different from yours as you already had the powered track for the 86GP but I need to keep the motor for the new seats. I need to fabricate the old mounting brackets onto the newer drivers seat without getting rid of the motor and track I guess>>>???
