ok i live in chattanooga tn so i have the emissions b/s so can i get rid of any vacuum lines and still pass or will it cause me to fail instead of pass

It depends on which year you have. There are some things that will not affect emissions. Generally, the vacuum devices are there to aid cold start and driveability. Removing them just because the engine looks cluttered is not the best idea.

Also, the carb, distributor, and EGR are all calibrated to work together, so you can't really just take pieces off here and there.

well its not that im going to remove all of them permanetly but so i can clean up the engine bay a little bit further and also so that i can replace ones that need to be but its an 85 cutlass supreme

You have a computer controlled engine, so there's not a lot of "extra" vacuum lines like the non computer models. You should have the thermostatic air cleaner, the air pump, hvac, PCV, EGR, canister purge, and a heat riser (EFE) valve. Really, all of them need to stay, the only two that wouldn't affect emissions directly would be the EFE and ThermAC, but then you'd have lousy cold running.

Replacing the old lines is a good idea, I think you will notice a better running engine without all the vac leaks. And at the same time you can make things neater.
