Architecturally, the 330 and 350 are the same, HOWEVER, the crank flange that the flexplate bolts to is different between the 2. If the 330 is a 4bbl, it could be as high as 10.25:1 compression, which can be good and bad. Good for performance, bad for catpee pumpgas. Whatever you do, keep the crank out of the 330; it's a factory steel piece that can be offset ground for around $300 to give you a mean 380-385 cu in small block Olds in a 350 block.

You and I seem to be sailing similar boats..

My 86 GP is stock, 59k miles. 305, 4bbl, 200-R4 4 Speed Auto, 7.5" Open rear.

My issue is that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the drivetrain (except the distinct lack of power) and it runs fantastic.. so why not run it?

I got a Edelbrock Intake with a EGR Port to retain the fully functioning "Computer" set-up.. Headers and duals are going on it.. and thats all Im going to do.. just run it. No real reason not to. Im not dumping money in the 305 for power, as the return on investment just isn't there. If I do something for power, its going to be a drivetrain swap/replace.. Still on the fence about what I would do, but Ill cross that bridge if/when I get there (350/383/LQ4-9 Swap).

But, as stated, if your goal is simply sound.. just get headers and duals.

You're right we do both have similar boats haha but yeah that's all I want out of my car because I know If I try anything big like a bigger engine or even a build out on the 307 its gonna sit longer than I would drive it.
