Donovan, did you buy them like that or did you get them chromed? Trust me, there is a good chance the block is also a 73 to 76 block, which is just as good. Otherwise, why not use the #5 or #6 heads? The #8 heads also aren't bad after a bowl hog cutter under the exhaust valves especially. You would also see a big N on the crank which is supposed to be stronger than the later cranks, nodular vs grey iron. I believe that change was 73 or 74 on the cranks. You have a good foundation and should be a good cruiser as is. Make sure you use a lot of part throttle timing with this motor.

I had them chromed. When I bought them, I pulled them off a car in the JY and they looked pretty much like the ones in the CL ad above.

I love seeing this picture. SO NICE!!!

Thanks James. It’s pretty tough to make an Olds engine look nice, but I think I accomplished it.

Where did you get them done? I need to find a set and get them chromed. There are basically those ugly welded aluminum, cheap chrome, Edelbrock chrome or expensive super tall "Oldsmobile", expensive Offy finned or used Edelbrock(mine), M/T or Hardin Marine finned covers, basically the same cover. It pissed me off Edelbrock rereleased the finned covers in literally everything but the Oldsmobile V8!

They started in late 1972 and I think through 1974 I have 3 sets two are corporate blue and one set of gold ones the latter were from a 1972

Curious what number heads were on the 72? I have seen some claim #8 heads on late 72 motors. I wonder if it has to do with changes like that. I was sure I saw a set on 74 350 years back in shop class.

The engine looked untouched to me but I could be wrong I’ll snap a picture of them next time I’m out in the shop you you guys can decide I also know my 79 Cutlass i had in high school had a 73 olds 350 and that engine was gold not corporate blue so it’s still kinda speculation but I know those year engines have them that I’ve seen
