Veterans Day

Happy Veterans Day to all who have either wore a uniform or supported family members who did.
As for the service "bragging", here's mine:

1/112th INF which I spent almost all of my career with & was deployed with for my two trips to Iraq

1/18th INF was who we were attached to for the first three months of the first tour

2/7th INF was who we spent the rest of that tour attached to & was part of HHC for six months training/working/living with the Iraqi Army at Saddam's Birthday Palace. Plus the unit that I earned my C.I.B. with and affiliated with.

2/110th INF was my first real Army unit out side of the ROTC system. Our battaion was disbanded & our company was returned to our original battaion, the 112th, after my first year & a half.

I sport the ol' Big Red One on my right sleeve of all my uniforms as it's my first authorized combat SSI.

Happy Veterans Day from one BRO soldier to another. I was in the 1st Engineers during Desert Storm.

Happy Veterans Day to all, and to all a safe journey from here on!

Veteran- Serving to sacrifice everything for others, by request or by choice.

I'm not virtue signaling here. Just saying what's true. I just hope those collective efforts are not wasted, nor forgotten. For those who made it through, and for those who did not.

U.S. Submarine Service. 1980-91. Ballistic missile sub, specifically. Our missile motto was a slightly modified one from Domino's Pizza- "Delivered in 30 minutes or less, or the next one's free."

It wasn't all fun and games, however. The Navy subsidized my G-body habit in the early years...so by default, they're responsible for enabling my nearly 40- year "drug" habit. 🙂

It's not bragging if it's true. But, once again, why am I the only house on my street flying the American Flag today? Half the neighbors are immigrants, you would think after busting azz to get here, becoming citizens, they would be the first ones to fly the flag. And don't get me started on the ones born here that are ignorant of what today stands for.

Even in my part of the outer rural area of the Pittsburgh region of multi generation American (most with linage back to pre Revolutionary War like myself) there is almost no flags flying other than what Elderton Boro has put up. Other than due to current world conditions they usally have a parade for vets.

I was a mechanic, so we could get stationed anywhere there were engines or vehicles that needed repair. Technically I was a Bradley fighting vehicle mechanic. But we were also trained on almost everything wheeled, and cross trained on M1 tanks too.

If you've never seen the movie Pentagon Wars, I highly recommend it. I've been a tester by trade for the last few years and am actually in a 3 month long testing course at the moment to learn and give feedback to make it better seeing how it's brand new. The movie is not far off of reality, in fact reality is probably worse! For now I'm in the 17th Test and Evaluation Squadron, but my missions are moving to the 4th TES around the time I get back from this class which will shorten my commute.

Yeah the Space Force does stuff weird. In my first life with the Air Force I was an aircraft Electrical and Environmental Craftsman. I miss it in some ways like the ability to be stationed pretty much anywhere but the Space world pays waaaayyy better on the outside.

We went to a little outdoor ceremony in our new little town today. It was quaint and appropriate.

Coming up on 17 years of service to Canada myself. Unlike every other country in the world - our Reserve Force is smaller than our Regular Force. But, it wasn't always that way.

What still remains from those early years are our Primary Reserve units who carry the battle honours of those who came before us. I have been fortunate to be affiliated with two of these storied Regiments.

The Lorne Scots (2005-2010):

"For our heritage."

The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa (2010-present):

"Advance."

And soon, I expect I will be joining the North Saskatchewan Regiment.

"Yield to none." (Pretty cool motto.)

Histories worth remembering.

Lest we forget.
