Ordered a pair for the front. They will be 6 to 8 weeks. I heard some spring pocket trimming is necessary.
Since I plan on painting the frame I was looking for some feedback on how much needs to be trimmed?

They all need to be cut off flush with the frame. Not sure what you mean by over...

Where is the clearance need to be? Is it where the fingers go down or does the hole need to be bigger?

I want to cut them now, painting frame soon. Viking said 6 weeks until I get them.

Hole doesn't need to bigger, need the fingers cut off flush with the frame.

I don’t understand what all the fuss is about . I installed my QA-1 coil overs (same design as Viking’s) & used Viking springs & they bolted in , easy peasy .
Did not need to cut or trim anything .
Been working fine for over 3 years now

There is no fuss. What it is, there are 2 styles of Viking coil overs. I think QA1 does the same thing. Yours is a conical spring that use the factory upper spring pocket.
The style I bought uses a smaller diameter 2.5" coil spring that does not use the factory spring pocket.

So broke off the fingers by scoring with a 2" grinder and bending the fingers until they broke off. Then I used a die grinder to smooth it all out.
Got the Viking coil overs installed today and just reporting there is just enough clearance. Ideally there should be more clearance towards the outside of the car but I don't think the top moves too much. It should be enough.

The left side of the pic is the outside.
