vin H specs

Hello there, im new to this sight. Looking for some information on the VIN H motor in the 87 monte carlo. There were 2 differant 4 barrel 305s in the 87. One vin G and one vin H. I have the vin H which is supposedly only in 29 percent of montes this year. If someone has some information on the differance between these two motors, please respond. Thank you.

The VIN cose H is the standard 305 4 barrel engine. I believe that the horsepower rating is 165hp. It has 8.5/1 compression, and a stock type camshaft. The VIN code G is the H.O. engine that came in the Monte SS. It is rated at 180hp. It has either 9.0/1 or 9.5/1 compression, and a Corvette camshaft. I find it unusual that only 29 percent of the '87 Montes got the VIN H engine, but I guess that could be because there were more Montes ordered with V6 engines than the standard VIN H V8.
