Quinte West, Ontario
Higher mileage than other 86
mint original chassis, 20 year old repaint - not too bad
all emission equipment there
bit of smoke at startup
a few OEM repairs(rad, alt) but brake fluid old
passed mechanical safety inspection.

T roof at front corner has rust staining- no visible rust on roof line
drivers seat back bolster has tear
interior faded Claret - seller says items can be repainted
dash faded and slight cracks
headliner backing bowing down

Basically body is very good, interior needs refreshing. I'm looking for close to unmodified state

I'd rather do interior redo (DIY cause I can't afford the good stuff) than spend big bucks on a repaint
Priced average when compard to others in my area...for another 3 to 4 thou I can get lower mileage with a better interior except most have extensive engine mods done

my gut feeling is keep looking...

when you say priced average to others in the area , how do the others stack up to this one ?

is this the $6,500 one you mention in an earlier thread ?

in a few months guys who want to sell with drop their prices to save the storage costs of winter. No everyone is lucky to the space to store.

have you seen the cost of single car storage unit ?

my 2 cents

Spend more money on a car that is truely rust free. Just my opinion.

How much should I deduct from my purchase offer considering the T roof sealing area need attention, dash has small cracking by speakers, seat bolster hole, faded seat material and door panels need tweaking? I'm thinking of lowering my offer at least $1000 from his asking of $7500.
The body is a 9 out of 10, chassis is a 10, drivetrain 8+, interior(T roof) = 4, all mechanical is OEM, no mods. Has passed safety inspection.

I'm not sure how you are rating the body and chassis without removing the body off the frame. My car was from Florida and I took out one body mount bolt to see what condition it was in. It was in great condition BUT before I put the body back on a "new" frame I had rebuilt 9 body mount locations on the body. Like Texus82GP suggested spend money on a rust free body, the mechanical stuff can easily be fixed and one it's fixed the problem doesn't usually come back, unlike rust

Well my Monte is rust free and my Regal is not and I am currently replacing the driver's inner and outer rocker's on the Regal and there will be more rust repairs after that.
Now I also have the tools and skill to do these repairs but even so I wish I would have spent more money and bought a cleaner car so I could get right to the fun stuff like making it faster but in the end my Regal is a solid car with a nice frame that I paid $1200 for so I can't complain too much and besides I like welding.
So my point is if these kind of repairs aren't in your budget or at your skill level then I would also look for a rust free car.

Sounds like a $3500 car at best to me. I spent twice as much and overpaid. My car is rust free and has nice new paint. The interior is original and is ok for a driver. The engine was a worn out 400. Everything was filthy and leaked. In retrospect I shouldn't have paid more than $3500- $4000.
