One side has a crack thats been repaired

A friend of mine has a set that he wants to give me. How are they actually attached to the panels?
 
Just some course thread short screws. There is a latch on the top that also just screws to the plastic panel. Pretty basic. Some I noticed have little rubber bumpers in the panel itself some don't. Don't know if they were added after or certain years.

So what you're saying is that they attach directly to the plastic. No reinforcement piece, or pieces that the screws are threaded into?
Being screwed into the plastic panel itself doesn't seem to make sense. I shouldn't be surprised, GM has done some funky stuff over time.

Jack the last ones I had where held on with a clip and screw deal...
