I was wondering if any of you guys would possibly have a factory diagram/exploded view of a wagon rear hatch window release mechanism (solenoid). It's already wired and mounted, just not releasing the latch to open the rear window,
Thank you!

:bump:

I recall that the latch mechanism had some bit of springiness in it that it popped the hatch ajar. Is there any 'ker-chunk' at all? If yes, but remains latched, what happens when you turn the key instead? Are the gas struts shot? My rear hatch is currently broken (can't turn the handle at all) so my advice will be updated when the wagon gets it's turn under my boxing gloves eventually.

I have a hatch release also, but the interior is not finished getting rewired.

I agree that glass kinda just popped away from the latch, but just barely. Enough to keep it unlocked. I have the stuff at home, just never installed it in the gate. Though my last 2 wagon had it.

Sorry Jack, I know this was no help at all. :blam:

Quinn,
It does make a "ker-chunk" when I push the button,( and turn the key to the on position). It just seems like there's not enough gusto, or pull to unlatch the window catch. It does make a hefty thump sound when activated.
The struts are new.
The solenoid came from another tailgate. I thought I pretty much followed how it was installed in that tailgate. I was wondering if there was an additional pulley, or something that takes up the slack in the cable. I did notice a crease in the middle of the cable that appears like it rested against something... I just don't know. :?

That's okay, Jim.
I was just wondering if any of you guys knew if there was anything fixed(or missing) in the middle of the cable, like a pulley, etc.
I don't want to put the interior panel back on until I found a solution to this. I know it's not a big deal, nor is it that important, but it would be nice if I got it working. It would certainly make me feel better, especially after wiring it up and utilizing the proper release button in the glovebox.

I did not re-rivet it back to the tailgate. Instead I used a few small nuts and bolts and elongated the mounting holes in order to take the slack out of the cable. It didn't seem to work as I thought it would.
It doesn't need much of a pull to release, or unlatch it. It does seem like it's barely latched. I cleaned up all the latch parts so they move freely. I even checked springs to see if any of them were weaker for that purpose. They both seemed to have the same tension.

Sorry, my Anguish was bad. When you manually open the hatch with the key, does it 'pop' open? If yess, then there is a tension problem in your cable. Can you see how much 'pull' the solenoid provides? I'm trying to armchair engineer what the problem is.

Yes, when I manually use the key to open it, it does release. Also, when I pull the cable, or put extra tension on it by hand, it does in fact unlatch.
From what I can tell, there's no actual adjustment of the solenoid cable. Like I was saying, I tried to move the solenoid back in order to pull up the cable tension, but to no avail. Again, what's puzzling, is the fact that there is a telltale crease in the center of the cable, like it either rested on something, or the the cable was routed in a particular fashion. :? ..

Otherwise the latch and mechanism works like it should. I thought, perhaps if I can see a parts diagram, it might be able to shed some light on how these things are installed.

Jack, you may need to adjust the glass latch in/out just a hair. Seems like I had to do so on one of mine. As I recall, I had to take it in a hair to get enough preload to release cleanly. Did make me a little nervous with the amount of flex in the glass, but was still working when the wagon found a new home.

Thanks for your suggestion, Brian.
I will give it a try and let you know how it goes. I have been wondering if there's anything else that I missed. It just seems like it's something simple that I'm overlooking.

Brian, now that I think of it, even with the glass open and me latching the catch by hand, it still doesn't release when I press the button.
I do hear it go ker-chunk--ker-chunk, but the latch is still in locked position. Go figure!
