Can't remember if you have delay wipers or not but here's a electric replacement that you need to remove the old mechanical pump off the wiper motor. The AC Delco is made by Trico & cheaper at Rock Auto. This is for the non delay.
And if you have delay wipers.

Those mechanical pumps are driven my the wiper motor & the pump side usally fail due to the seals going bad. There are kits out there to rebuild them but it'll be easier to remove the pump/motor cover & instal one of those AC Delco/Trico units as they make it a clean OE like look. As for converting you would need to find the correct complete set up. '78 & 79 are the same with the '80 & '81 but the motor is also used up to '83. The wiper switches are the expensive part with the earlier having an external contoller in the wiring under the dash, later just has an extra green wire running from the switch to the pump. But back to the replacement pump. Years back I used the Trico unit to replace the OE unit along with the failed external aftermarket one. All it was unplug/unbolt & reverse. My delay conversion has one of these added & I have one for Jr.'s car that I'll show him how to swap one. Even the original 2 speed's replacement pump still works as of last testing & it's well over 20 years old.
I had a buddy of mine talk to me about an all in one unit your information that you gave me is great, but I was wondering if you could capitalize on the all-in-one unit and whether or not that would be good. Dez
I like them cause of the better & more consistent flow, they don't need the wiper motor itself to function, compaired to the external universal type pumps these are direct plug & play with out cutting wires. They even give a cleaner look with it being a direct replacement. Even if the pump isn't bad, there is the chance the the drive connection from the motor could be damaged & prevent the pump to functions as you wouldn't have this issue with the replacement unit or have to hunt down the needed parts to fix the drive connection.
