Went to the Pierce Nebraska Car Auction Last Weekend

Another thought. Some of these cars were laying out in the field for 40- 50 yrs or so. I'm sure they would still need to be mechanically overhauled, besides the interiors being weathered from open or broken windows. Some only had a few miles on them, but laying out there for this amount of time is worse than a vehicle that had been run and used everyday of it's life.

Jeff, I wonder what this guy's intentions were for the wagon. Replace the glass, interior, etc...or use it as a parts car?

My guess would be a parts car but who knows. Body looked to be fairly rust free from what I could see, roof had a large dent above the windshield, possibly a tree branch dropped on it.

I looked through the catalog of vehicles that were offered. Many of them went for stupid money. There was a lot of junk out there as well. Some were probably even bought by scrap dealers.

I saw a '62 Belair wagon, listed as a '67 with a smashed in front bumper and left side fender. It sold for $4000.
I think people got caught up in the frenzy of bidding. I guess many foreign buyers got into the act.

I read an article on line a couple weeks before the auction. It stated the cars were lovingly cared for by the family. Not from the pictures I saw. Putting a car in a field for 40 years is lovingly caring for it? Putting it in a building and never touching it again, lovingly caring for it? I agree, people got caught up in the hype. Low miles mean nothing if the engine is seized from sitting, the floors are rotted from sitting over dirt. They're still gonna take a huge investment to restore, low miles or not.
