For my 82 El Camino. Going through Summit catalog looking at some 15x8 aluminum wheels and Mickey Thompson ET Drag slicks. What back space wheel and what size ET Drag? Not going to do a frame notch. Also my rear end is stock with 2.73,, Help

Check out my for sale post, I have the tires 255/60-15 MT ET's you need & I also have two 15 x 7 aluminum wheels (after market copy of 86-87 Buick T=Type alloy). I make you a package deal? Call me if your interested 608-752-5925, Bob Jr.

I want drag slicks and when it comes to bias ply slicks, I always buy brand new. Thanks for the offer though

I've searched for about 2 hours and its mixed. I was going to buy a pair of 15x8 cheap copies of the weld pro stars but only offer 5 or 4 1/2 back space. I'm looking at ET Drags but don't know whether to get 26 or 28 tall. I got 2.73 gears so 26 would help the tall gearing right? If I have to buy real Welds I can get them with a 3 1/2 back space. I know its been asked a million times

You could still probably go through the traps in second even with the 26's.

I don't know how mine will fit yet, but I am going to run Weld 15x8's with 3.5" backspacing and 275/60r15's, either et street radial s/s or radial pro. I rolled the quarter lips, no frame notch.

Before I notched my frame I ran some ARE 15" x 8" with 4" of backspace and on those rims I ran some 275/60R15 and also some Hoosier quick time tires 295/60.
In the picture above I have steel rally wheels that 15" x 8" also with 4" of backspace and those are Hoosier Quick Time Pros 28" x 11.5".
I have found because of the typically larger section width on a bias ply deviating from a centered rim will either cause rubbing issues on the frame or the opposite where they start to stick out and have possible issues with the wheelwell hitting and cutting the tire.
I would consider a frame notch it will give you far more choices on backspacing while still keeping the tire from sticking out of the wheelwell.
If you want better acceleration off the line I would change gears I feel a 26" tire is just a bandaid that is full of compromises and also would look ridiculously short on the rear of a Gbody.

I've run the old BF Goodrich drag radials 235-60-15's on a 15 x 8 Corvette steel rally wheel (4.00 back space)
Latest combination was a 15 x 8.5 Center Line Convo Pro (3.75 backspace) with a 28-11.50-15 Mickey Thompson ET Street.
No clearance issues at the frame or fender lip but, with 4.10 gears I will change to 27 inch tall tire on the next set.

I'm sticking with my stock gears because it is my daily driver. I only plan on hitting the midnight drags maybe a few times a year. So as far as 26 tall looking weird, I don't mind as long as it works. I'm just unsure whether to go 26, 27, 28, or 29s. What height tire would work best with a 2.73 rear gear and a turbo 350 trans? I can tune very well but when it comes to gearing and tire sizes, I'm in a different world.
