Welcome to 2025!

Since nobody else has started yet I figured I'd post my update on my yet-to-be-named 2 decades in waiting project:

On the way home from the hospital I cleaned off the *rear* half of the car to find some paint peel/flash rust about quarter size on the front top corner of the decklid, and, a scratch on the quarter panel that formed rust due to being exposed for the last 25ish years.

The inside did *not* smell of mice, a good sign, and the engine turned freely.

After that I was still loopy and tired from the anesthesia so I quit, for now.

Got the new front coil springs installed this morning. I got off to a good start at 7:30am and finished up at 11:45. While I was at it I removed the lower control arms and greased the PST Polygraphite bushings as they squeaked a lot. Need to pull the rear control arms as well to grease them too.

Anyhow, it went very well and I found a, kind of, safer way of doing the job. I put the lead screw of the compressor through the upper shock mount hole and pulled (compressed) the spring into the upper frame pocket. I gradually brought the lower control arm up as the spring was being compressed and with the spindle and brake rotor hanging in the way I felt much more at ease. The one caveat was the spring was pulled straight up into an angled spring pocket. When compressed I had to force the spring inward to the lower control arm spring pocket. I used a few different sized pry bars through the lower shock opening and a small block of wood to take up more space and to get a better pry point. To add to that I had an idea to help move a very rigid compressed spring over 3"s or so. I used a ratchet strap from the opposing side and put a bunch of tension on it in the direction I needed the spring to move and that made all the difference. Got the first one done and the second was much easier with the plan in place. I also replaced the rubber spring isolators on top of the springs with AC Delco replacements, the originals were in bad shape. It went well and I took the car for a nice drive with my oldest and it made a big improvement in ride quality and handling.
