I was going to do the full year range for the GP but I couldn't come up with something concrete for the 81 - 84 model years that was "exciting" in any way.

For the 85 - 87 model years I would have had the following:

Base Grand Prix - 85 - 87
Engine: MPFI (SFI for 86 & 87) 3.8 (231) V6 (Now before you go off on any tangent about breaking rules, the technology was available on production cars albeit the FWD version of the engine.)
Transmission options: THM-200 standard, optional THM-200-4R or Borg-Warner T5
This setup would have probably netted between 120 to 150 HP depending on the year.

Grand Prix LJ - 85 - 87
Engine: 305 (5.0) V8 w TPI (LB9 - Trans Am engine)
Transmission options: THM-200 standard, optional THM-200-4R, 700-R4, or Borg-Warner T5
Between 150 to 200 HP, depending on year and EFI tech used.

Grand Prix GTO - 85 - 87
Engine: 350 (5.7) V8 w/TPI (L98 - 85 / 'Vette engine)
Transmissions: 200-4R or 700-R4 standard, Borg-Warner T5
Approximately 235 HP

I will comment on one thing.... 1985 was the prototype of the 2+2 without the aerocoupe rear window. If I were allowed to use prototype parts, then damn straight that nose would have been an option for 85!

Grand Prix 2+2 - 86 - 87
Engine: 350 (5.7) V8 w/TPI (L98 - 85 / 'Vette engine) OR 231 (3.8) V6 SFI Intercooled turbo (GN Engine)
Transmissions: 200-4R, optional Borg-Warner T5
Approximately 235 to 245 HP respectively.

I've always thought that the 78/79 Grand Prix should have been offered with a Pontiac 400, since it was available in the Fbody during those years. 😀

Absolutely! GP 6.6 on the shaker hood, super t-10 4 speed, 15X8 snowflakes and a 3.42 rear. All leather interior w/t-tops. A special wing and of course the Trans Am splitter dual exhaust.

Call this one a Super Stock Regal.

78 Coupe
Base no frills interior, lighter weight Monza buckets, radio delete, Olds sport wheel.
Aluminum trunk, hood, bumper supports, and rad support
Vette suspension front and rear, including brakes
Obviously the Dana vette rear end
3.73's
454
Super T10
15x8 chevy ralleys out back, 15x7 up front.

^^^I like this concept^^^

How about 2 different "body in white" versions?
1. Drag strip:
-Available in any of the '78-'80 fastback body style (Salon, etc.)
-Aluminum body panels where available.
-(Here's a bent rule) 12 bolt w/limited slip. It was available in trucks and using that center casting with Gbody tubes would have been possible. Aluminum drums.
-Stock front suspension with "big block" rate springs.
-No engine, no transmission, No interior, no VIN tag. "Track use only".

2. Road course:
-Available in 2dr base model only. (Malibu, Regal, Cutlass, Lemans)
-Aluminum body panels where available.
-(Bent rule again) 8.5" w/limited slip. Same as above. Aluminum drums.
-Stock front suspension. Spring rate unimportant since road racers will change it anyway. 9C1 brakes.
-(Approved bent rule) Corvette rear suspension.
-No engine, no transmission, no interior, no VIN tag. "Track use only".

I like it 8) , On the corner carver, the corvette rear suspension would include the Dana 44 center section (I believe it's dana 44 based), which would give you the eaton lsd, and 8.5 ring gear 😀 , not to mention it had disk brakes 8).
Since we're bending rules, lol, on the dragger, as an option why not ditch the 4 link and run a set of nova/camaro leaves to go with the truck 12 bolt  .

Factory to factory, it's hard to say, your leaf guys will say leaf, coil guys will say coil, there's too many other factors that come into play, but, both need help to hook like an independant set up. I guess in the F.A.S.T. class a guy with a 69 vette took flack for having an unfair advantage due to his car being able to hook like no one elses, lol.

This MAY have been an actual option. In 78 buick had a century sport wagon. It was just the normal wagon with 14X7 ralleys, black roof pilars and a few badges. I have never seen one, but I think thats what the package was limited too. I think it would be awesome if it had the turbo regal hood and 3.8 carb turbo. Also would need F41 suspension, buckets and a console. I dont know if any sport wagons left the factory with the turbo motor as it was an option of the 4dr century's and regals. I think the package may have went into 80 but I have no idea.

I have a 78 real buyers guide and it does hint that a turbo motor was possible witht he sport wagon but I have no clue.

Option #1 - T-top Buick Regal powered by a Duramax diesel and an Allison transmission, daily driver

Option #2 - Gbody body sitting on a Z06 chassis/driveline
