If you could go back in time and design a Gbody what would it have been?
Here's the rules:
1. Parts must be from a production car. No prototype or concept car pieces.
2. Parts must be from the same year. No Northstars in Regals or Muncies in GNs.
3. Avoid weird bending of rules. No 4X4 Bonnevilles or convertible 442s.
1981 2 door Malibu
An 'export' 350
A/C delete
Police spec cooling /electrical.
F41 suspension.
An 8.5 rear/3.08's
what ever manual transmission they used in vettes that year.
A 15x8 wheel with a decent 235/60-15 performance tire... probably off of a z28.
Love the post. This is actually what my car was supposed to represent. The never made 20th Anniversary GTO prototype (basically a prototype because mine is an '83 - one year early for a 20 yr). Body painted grill, removed chrome, custom Ram Air hood, stock pontiac period rims, stock pontiac sound. All GM Engine with bowtie heads, LT4 Hot Cam, but with Edelbrock intake, demon carb and headers.
GM should have made these cars. 1981-1987 GTO from GP (my specs); 1978-1987 Chevelle SS from a Malibu with 454 and 4spd; El Camino SS (see Chevelle); 1981-1987 Grands Sport think GN with V-8 and colors; Monte SS with 350, a 4 spd, a Dana rear and a GP dash (oh yeah, they made this one in Mexico). I've built the first one and plan to build the Chevelle next in blue with white SS stripes.
Here`s one i`ve had in mind for a while and might just do one day.
1) stocker package car: 78-79 base lemans with L72 400 and t-10 from a t/a, 3.73 gears (myrtle motors in NY made a GP gt with this for a while) radio delete, heater delete, no sound deadning or insulation, bench seat, batterie in trunk and since they made aluminum body panels for other gbodies, they could have made some for Pontiacs.
