is it in sarnia, as i could go look at it for you,

why does everyone get all freaky about the rear frame rails??
usually on cutlass's the rot is PAST the structural part of the rear wheels. a very easy fix. with a good welder and a chopsaw, maybe three hours to fix both sides, and way less for 1. once its welded.....a little grinding and some touchup paint and no one will ever know

peace

Didnt get to see it tonight, got drunk instead iwill check it out tomorrow if i have time definitly not gonna pay 5500 for it if the frame rails are replaced though.

It is on woodland off of rosedale ave cutty. in a garage. go check it out if you want, only if you dont steal my find lol. the guy has an ad on sarnia online get his number from there.

Has anyone seen a 59000km car rot out like that?

Dudeface im not really freaky about the framerails im just not going to pay ful price for a car with a repair like that.

edit: btw where are you located cutty

It's not so much the frame rust that would bother me. Yeah that is an easy fix. I'd be more concerned about the rust that you CAN'T see right now that I'd be worried about.

Have you done this sort of repair yourself? And if so can you post or send pictures? I was contemplating doing this exact same thing.........dropping the tank and welding flat iron along the frame to stiffen up the rot areas.

If the rear frame rails have been replace, dont walk, RUN away from the car. Especially at that price.

Actually, if the frame rails were replaced, I'd be more interested in the car than if they were original, especially in Canada. It would have to be a professional job though, maybe with the ones Conrad Lozier makes. My Regal had 73,000 miles on it when I bought it, and it was originally from central PA. The body was EXCELLENT, shiny original paint, great chrome/trim for the age. The floors had surface rust on the front sections, like any car that has been driven anywhere aside from southwestern US all it's life. The frame was scaly, but we didn't realize how bad it was until after we started poking at it. The left rear rail was so bad, a good 6"x2" section just disintegrated. The one body mount bushing was crushing down into the top of that rail too. Eventually, that rail cracked right after the rear wheel where it starts to kick-up. Luckily, the right rear rail is still mostly there, with "only" pin-holes. I am getting them both replaced this month.

Overall, I think the rear rails on these cars were VERY BADLY designed and were obviously not treated sufficiently with corrosion resistant materials from the factory. I've seen more of these cars that had bad rear rails than ones that were still good (and I'm below the rust belt). It's one of the main reasons why you can't find too many G-bodies anymore in certain areas.

At least with that car, someone took the time to save it. I wouldn't pay $5500 for it, but again, if the frame repair and body/paint are nicely done, I'd consider it a positive rather than a negative. That kind of structural work is not cheap either, so take that into consideration.

Here is the link to the guy that makes replacement rails:

I bought a set and they are excellent quality. There is a guy on here with a white Monte Carlo SS in Canada that had them redone by that guy at his shop in Ontario. There are a few other people too if I remember right.
