The 200R 4 in my 1987 442 was slipping before I put it up for the winter. I was wondering if I should just rebuild the 200R 4 or swap to a different trans. Looking for some options on what to do. I may do a mild rebuilt/upgrade on the 350 Olds that's in the car. I want a transmission that can hold up to a little more street performance than the stock trans. Should I build up what I got or switch to a 700R4 or a turbo 400? Any help would be great.

Keep a 200-4R in it. A TH400 makes you lose a gear, it's heavier, less efficient, and takes more power to turn. Expressway driving with a 3 speed and low rear end gears flat out sucks!

A 700R4 is a Chevy bolt pattern so it won't work unless you bought an adapter. The 1st to 2nd gear spread is pretty big and affects acceleration. Plus you'd have to cut your drive shaft.

A 200-4R is more efficient, lighter, has better gearing, and can be built to handle power.

If you decide to get rid of it anyway sell to me

....and where in Chicago are you located?

I will probley keep the 200-4R and just get it built up. I guy was telling me go with the 700-R4 but I don't know if I want the hassle. I probley won't get the trans rebuilt for another month or two anyway.
By the way I am also on the South Side of Chicago.
