4spd=200r4, 3spd=th350 i highly doubt that they ever put the th200 in an ss. the other thing to look at is the 200r4 will have a double hump pan and a non-removable tailshaft, it's part of the housing. the th350, like most GM trannies had 4 bolts holding the tailshaft to the main housing.

g-bodies never came from the factory with a 700r4. it was just the th350, th200 and the 200r4. and a few rare stick shifts.

'85 SS's have the TH200-4R

83-84 had TH350 with 3.42 rear gear

85-88 had TH200-4R with 3.73 rear gear

posi-trac was an option all years.
console shift was also an option all years

Unless there were some dealer installed manual trannys, all came from the factory with automatics. Just like the supposed "factory 350" No such thing. Maybe a dealer installed option, but not a factory.

If anyone wants to argue these facts, I suggest you buy the same huge hardcover book I have titled..... The History Of Chevrolet. It covers ALL Chevy cars ever produced by the General by year, production numbers, & any and all options.

I agree on all counts but this - you couldn't get an 83 SS with a limited slip rear or a console - they are all the two-toned blue/white bench seat (with embroidered headrests) with an open rear. Some 84's also got this two tone interior, likely to use up leftover stock, but most are solid blue whether they were bench or bucket seat.

I think the guy above talking about manual transmissions was referring to g-bodies in general. But f you want to get pickey, g-bodies are 82-88, and all manual g-bodies were in the 78-80 body style (which are technically A-body specials).
