If you can take a picture of the trans pan and post it we can tell you for sure.

If it says METRIC on the pan, it's a TH 200C. If not, it's probably a TH350 C. If it's a TH350 C, you have a usable transmission. If you have a TH 200 C, well... I hear the price for aluminum scrap is pretty good!

the 200c was a fine 3speed trans as it had a lockup. It's also a great basis for the 200R4 trans upgrade as the lockup swtich and plug is already there from what I understand and the driveshaft for the 2 is the same length.

You really have to look underneath to know what it has for that time period. My '81 Malibu wagon has a TH350c. My '78 Cutlass had and '78 LeMans has a TH200, and the '84 Grand Prix I owned had a 200c. I think (correct me if wrong) all G bodies built for the USA beginning with the '81 model year came with computer command control and one of the acssociated "c" lockup torque converter trannies, either 200c or 350c.

All 81 and newer GM cars sold in the US had an ECM and at a minimum, electronic distributor with computerized timing control and a lock up torque converter if equipped with automatic transmission. Even the diesels had an ECM with torque converter control.

Well even if the Malibu has the turbo 200 run it till it blows. Do the same with the 7.5 rearend!
Thanks to all you who replyed your information was very helpful

RE: 81 Boo

My car originally was a 3.8L (229) with a metric trans w/lockup converter, 7.5 rear with 2.41 gears. Thats pretty sick!
