Hey guys getting back to work on my 78 Monte and I need a new battery. Its going to be a street/strip car. What battery should I go with? Top post or side post? I can change the terminals to whatever I want. I also have a Summit Racing Mini Torque starter, don't know if that changes anything. Running about 10.5/1 compression.

Go for an Optima. Some batteries actually have both types of terminals. Take your pick.

I always you top post batteries or ones with top and side post.
I think they are easier to work with, on a side post if you cross thread the battery cable bolt you can ruin the battery.
On the top post cable ends I use there are bolts with nuts, cross thread one of those and all you have to do is replace the nut and bolt.
Top post I find are much easier to add accessories since you just undo the nut and slip your terminal over the bolt and install the nut.
On top/side post batteries I use the top post for the battery cables and the side post for accessories.

I like top post

Thanks for your input guys. Currently I have an old ford van battery in it and switched the terminals. I just threw it in there cause the other one wouldn't hold a charge. When I get ready to take it on the streets I'll buy a new one. Whats a good battery that has good CA but its not too large. I don't need a fancy agm battery.
