Just wondering if anyone had a clue to as to what G-body wagon was the lowest production or I guess the most rare wagon built ?

Seems like there was goobs of Malibu wagons made,Pontiacs probably next,Oldsmobile I'd say 3rd,and Buick last.

But was there some really rare optioned wagon figures ? I know some Malibu wagons were 350 4-speeds,but did any of the other GM's have these options ?

I know of one Malibu wagon a guy in Clay City Ky. bought to get a wierd lookin GM 10 bolt from, not sure if it was an 8.5 or not,( 4:11 w/locker unit) because it had a cover like I've never seen before, and it was a factory built electric powered car.
When he bought it ,it had all the batteries in it,but they would not hold a charge any longer. He said it looked just like any other Malibu wagon other than there was no gas tank , gas door on side, and no gas gauge inside the dash.

Any figures on production numbers ? And what kind of oddballs has anyone else seen or heard about :?:

Good topic!
I'd also like to know what the rarest and lowest production wagons were. 350 4-spd wagons have got to rank amongst some of the rarest. Probably built for law enforcement. Although, most police cars were automatics as far as I could tell.

That electric powered wagon sounds interesting. I wonder if it was a factory prototype, or a backyard conversion?

The electric wagon was a factory prototype according to my friend in Clay City.I wish at the time (mid 90's) I had enquired more as to it's whereabouts after he claimed the rearend from it,but I guess it got sent to the crusher :?:
I still have contact with the Lowel ,I should probably ask him

It would certainly be in vogue in todays times of hybrids and electric cars. I'm sure it was a one off.

I think the regal/century wagons were the rarest. Malibus would be most common, followed by cutlasses, then the pontiacs.

Got a return e-mail from my buddy who bought the electric malibu wagon.

He got it from a man around Lexington,Ky.It was a early 80's model (he could not remember year) factory experimental car.

It had a large electric motor in it he said.

The rearend was a Dana 44,8 1/2 ring gear (4:88 gear),w/bolt in axles. And has been used in two different race cars now without a single problem since he bought it.

He never mentioned where the car ended up though :!:

My Dad bought a Buick Century wagon once, loved it other than the 3.8 v6.It had about the nicest interior of all the midsize G-body wagons I ever saw.

I have Buick Limited front and rear seats in my 79 '2dr Malibu.I think they may have been close or the same as what was in the Century wagon. But if I can find some G-body buckets I'll change out the seats. The velore material starts to flatten almost rub off over time.

I would tend to agree with your statement. The Malibu wagons are about the most common. Then the Cutlass Cruisers, Pontiac Grand Lemans/ Safari /Bonneville, and Buick Regal/ Century wagons.
You rarely see any G-body wagons cruising around these days...even the most common Malibu wagon. I still get looks driving mine around...and it ain't the prettiest car on the road.

Although, I have seen a ratty Pontiac Bonneville wagon on occasion...and a rough looking Cutlass Cruiser. I always try to keep a look out.

Yeah, wagons are rare. I have seen a bunch of daily driver 2 drs, a few 4 drs, but have only seen a handful of daily driver wagon in the past 2 years since I have payed attention.

Would love to own a wagon, but havnt seen any wagons on craigslist for sale or for sale locally. 2 drs are plentiful. And the sad part is I want a BOP product, so that means 50% of the wagons for sale arent what I want.

The salvage yard I go to that has a bunch of G bodies has like 15 Bu's, 15 cutlass cruisers, 7 safaris, and 2 century/regals. Thats kinda where I got those figures, along with what Ive seen.

You make my mouth water....I've only found one single solitary wagon in a 75 mile area of my house, and theres lots of junk/salvage yards around here.
Not one Malibu to see in any of them either.

The one junkyard that has the Olds wagon said three years ago a man came and stripped every g-body of interior he had. Then when the price of scrap got high,he had them all hauled.

The metal scrap yard we have around here Mansbauch Metal,is on of the largest in the country.Cars get hauled in on semi tractors everyday 24/7.I've sat and thought of how many good parts have run thru that place since it's been open (1930's).
Damn that place  !
