Doug, thank's, I like your Elky too. Your overall ratio is 7.75 with those gears, even a 3:11 first would yield 8.49. Mine is 9.73. I like as close to 10 to 1 as possible to make for easy takeoffs and traffic jams. Jack, the "Sprint" was a rarity in 79'. It is the Trans Am motor. Most guys don't know that the 79' TA 400 was really leftover 78's stockpiled for the 400's last hurrah. It was only available with a 4 speed stick and if you needed an automatic you got the Olds 403. But Pontiac was besieged with orders for stick cars so they offered the 79' TA with the 301 4 barrel 4 speed stick. To make up for the 99 less inches they turbocharged it in 80', but in 79' they just put in a better cam, timing, and a stick shift. That same set up was the 79' "Sprint" option on LeMans. That's how I set up my car, to 79' TA specs. There is a nice 79' TA 301 4 speed for sale for $1000 right now but it's up in Canada not far from Pontiacgp. http://www.301garage.com/forum/index.php?topic=2689.0
