Great story's people. Thanks for sharing. My mom and dad were big Impala fans. They had
a 65, 69, 71, 74, 76, 78. The 65 was the only 2 door SS. 327 powerglide.
The 69 was a 283 and the rest were 350.
My dad used to work at Cape Canaveral during the early nasa years. He helped build the vertical
assembly building . He also drove a 61 ford comet wagon back and forth from Orlando to the Cape
everyday. The ladder he used to tie to the roof of the wagon I still have today.
He's been gone now since 1999. I miss him every day.
My brother owned 2 Early Nova's a 66 and a 70. The 66 was factory 4 speed 327. Fire red black interior.
Car was stolen from in front of the house one night. He took the insurance money and got the 70.
SS 396 factory 4 speed, Midnight blue, dark blue cloth. He took care of that car like you would not imagine.
It only had 11K miles on it when sold in 1989. A Rep For Reggie Jackson purchased the car from him for $38.500
Nobody had ever even ridden in the back seat of the car. And without any additional scent still smelled showroom new.
He kept it in an air conditioned garage and kept it covered. To bad he never was really able to enjoy it.
That would have been a 6 figure car today. I bet he wishes he still had it....

First car I drove- early mid 90's Subaru Legacy wagon. That one ended up off the side of the road around graduation time, on it's side, against a tree. Good thing too, or it would have been probably upside down at the bottom of a ravine.

First car I payed money for, '86-87 VW Fox. 4 speed, 4 cylinder, 4 door. Come to think of it, it also ended up on it's side, but on the side of a dirt road after some fun S turns. Had to replace the back passenger side window, few quarts of oil and a Metallica tape that I never found. Drove it for another year or so, passed it off to my older brother (think I got an S-10) and he ended up scrapping it after it decided it wanted to go all German and not run despite fuel, fire and air. Fun car. We called it the $50 Fox racer. Would buy another, but probably put a roll cage in it just to be safe. Snow banks are only soft when they're fresh.

Now, my Regal was a gift from my parents so I never considered it "my" car. My stepdad got cancer a few years ago (in remission now) and he had to dig into his retirement fund to pay all the bills. He bought my mom a 2008 Taurus X (biggest turd we've ever owned. Trans would act like it was in neutral every few days and slip really bad until BANG slammed itself into gear. The right front CV shaft had a habit of locking that wheel as well. "Mechanics" never found the problem because it never happened to them on the test drive and "nothing looked wrong") and there was a few grand left over from all the inital expenses and the Turd X, so I jokingly suggested getting my 15 year old self a car, showing them a 1985 Regal Limited V6 with 84,000 on the clock for 1500$. They said "we'd never get you wanything that nice!" Three days, one phone call and 1500$ later it was my pride and joy. Did many a illegal thing in that car, but drugs were never involved. I ain't no dummy. Soon that poor V6 had enough of my shenanigans and grenaded. Oil was more coolant that lubrication and it developed a HORRIBLE rod knock. I then picked up a 350 buick three months after that (Feb 2015, about the time I got my first job and joined this here wonderful forum). 3000 and more than a year later I'm almost done.

In early November of last year, I saw a sinister looking satin black 1970 Thunderbird Landau Sedan on my local craigslist for 1500$. I don't know why, but I bookmarked that page immediately. A few weeks later, page was updated to 1000$. Then a few more weeks, 800. Come december 7th I pick the car up for 650$ the same day another guy (presumably coming for the 429 in it) was going to buy it for 800. Old man just wanted it gone. That night I drove it home, showing it off to anyone who dare walk by. My favorite part about the car, besides the suicide doors and 429 that is is the freaking Joe Dirt Foot gas Pedal. It made me crack up so much. I was wondering why the car always spit popped and backfired like a damn 12 gauge after you let off if you got into it (scared the bajeezus out of people though, so that was funny) that 600 holley had pretty much everything that could be wrong with a carb wrong. Warped on base plate and where the metering blocks (?) screw to the carb, blown out accelerator pump, etc. And the idiot (before the old man) had an open spacer on the stock cast iron 4bbl intake. Looks like he went apeshit with Mr. Gasket stuff too. Stupid braided hose covers and all. It has a working MSD box and blaster coil and wires though. Does good burnouts for 4500lbs. And with all the rust holes it looks like I'm hotboxing the damn thing. I Bought it with my own cash that I worked for, registered it with my own money, spent many a dollar on new parts with more to come. My ThunderTurd is what I consider my true first car. Long post I know, but I wanted to say it.

My first car I purchased back in 1986 just before I turned 16. A 1978 Cutlass Calais, black on black, vinyl interior, T-tops, seat belts had been cut out by the previous owner. Back then though, who needed seat belts right? I remember my dad saying to me, "Someone cut the seat belts out...Good deal cause you won't use them anyway." My how times have changed! Had all the bells and whistles of the Hurst, just not that 350,paint,and wheels. Came with a 260V8 and that's why my dad liked that car for me, I wouldn't end up wrapping it around a tele pole like my brother did with his T/A.

my first ride was a 1974 2 door dodge charger. i was 15 didn't have a license or permit. a friends neighbor was selling it for 175.00 . i went and looked at it and it was a beater. it was a week before Xmas . family asked what i wanted for Xmas told them money. the guy held the car for me. got enough for Xmas bought the car. family didn't know till i brought it home and it didn't go over very well. but i got to keep the car was told i couldn't drive it till got a permit.lol when my mom went to bed i went cruising.

BEAUTIFUL cutlass man. Beautiful.

It's interesting that the 86 Cutlass shown above had just slight differences to the body lines of the same year Monte Carlo
. Opera window more narrow. and a slight wrinkle in the sheet metal just in back of the door handle on the quarter panel.
But back then they saved money by only changing. little things to make a different body style and still retain the same
basic frame and supporting parts. Nice car. Mine was the same color when I got it.

My first car was officially a '56 Chevy 2-dr sedan with a 283, 3-spd on the floor. The 283 had a cracked block. I found another '56 2-dr sedan in the neighborhood for $20.00 with a smashed front end. It was a 265 with a 3-spd on the column. The first '56 became a parts car for the second one. We took the front end off and 4-bbl carb and manifold... and also took GP bucket seats and Hurst shifter out.
It was going to be a gasser style car...no front bumper and hood scoop.
I was 16 at the time, not legally old enough to drive in NY. The car later was scrapped....too bad. Couldn't afford to put any money into it.
At the time, the car would've been only 10 yrs old....virtually a new car...what a shame.

My first car was a 1979 Pontiac Firebird, "Redbird Model" It was the Firebird Esprit with the redbird package. T-Tops, V8, really fun car. Factory 8 track and CB too. Billy Joel The Stranger 8-track came with the car. I had that through high school, then moved on to 2 Gbodies - a 1984 Pontiac Grand Prix, and then a 1985 Grand Prix with T-tops. Wish I still had that 85.
