My family and I was at the Woodward Dream Cruise this past weekend and a guy walks up and ask, "Who's black Malibu is that sitting there?" It was a group of us and the person who it belonged to spoke up and said, "It's mine!" The guy then says to him, if you ever want to sell it, call me first and hands him a business card. The owner of the car son was there as well and has a car of his own, says to the guy... It's for sale!!! The guy then goes on to say "I'd be willing to pay anywhere from 20 to 25 thousand. He starts telling us this story about how his wife's first car was a 79 Malibu with the stick in the floor and he would buy it, but the stick in the floor and give it to her as a surprise as if he found her old car. The owner of the car never said a word, it was the son who was doing all the talking and told the guy, we'll meet you in the middle at 22,500. The guy says just give me a call and we can talk.

Now we all have G-bodies and even the owners brother who he originally bought the car from said he should have sold it. The car has been in the family a long time but it was the family telling him he should have sold it right then and there. So everybody that came after that and didn't witness the event was told what happened so he had to hear the story over and over again and it just became a running joke.

How much is a car worth to you? If someone offered you 4x what the car is worth would you take it?

You could buy maybe 2 real nice ones for that price. The look on his face was priceless when his son told the story over and over again.

There are times when I feel like, some people just need to make an impression. Play the big shot, spin their tale, etc. Would be interesting to know how this story ends.

Everyone always say it it was their car it would be sold. As for the actual owner, I would believe there would have to be some time needed to think things over. There had to be a reason why there wasn't a for sale sign on the car at that time. Now for someone else jumping in to say sold, someone needs a pimp slap to remind them who owns the car. We all would love to have an insane offer for anything we own, but until the cash is on hand & that person is realistic on that offer it is just smoke.

Money is just money, and if you have it,you'll likely hang on to the car.
I'm poor so I'd sell mine for way too much in a heartbeat. Then I'd hunt down another one!
Best wishes to the potential buyer, and seller.

7 grand and I could do it.
10 grand and I'd be happy.
15 grand and I'd feel guilty.
Any more than that and I'd ask them why they don't buy something else.

Some one who offers to pay 20 grand+ unprovoked on a Malibu that doesn't even have the trans style they want just to surprise-gift it to their wife either has more money than they know what to do with or likes telling stories.

From my own perspective I agree with you to some extent. But from my father's perspective, 20k just isn't that much money considering he can afford to buy brand new trucks and SUVs. And he's by no means an ultra rich guy.

If someone wants to pay me some ridiculous amount like that, I can't imagine feeling guilty for it. We are a capitalist society whether we like it or not and it doesn't do anyone any good for a person with not very much capital to refuse some from a more wealthy person.

My own father has a hard enough time spending 5 grand on things he actually wants. I suppose the gap between "rich" and "poor" has really grown to the point where the well-off don't even feel well-off, but then again everything looks big when you're having to look up at it. You're right enough.

When I say I'd feel guilty, maybe I just mean I'd be in extreme disbelief. (Only bought it for $2,750 and it's been heavily tampered with since.) But I'd go through with it for sure. Money is survival at the end of the day. Not sure I'd even replace the car. Would just be nice to have the monetary cushion. (You can tell I'm just using my car for what it can provide at this point.)
