Also, as much as I am absolutely in love with the original Mini, it did have an ugly b*st*rd step-child BMC stablemate: The Riley Elf/Wolesley Hornet.

It was an attempt by the BMC at an upmarket Mini by adding a trunk, but it just doesn't work.

hey minis are cool. they are not as cool as a g body but they are smaller. when they grow up they will be almost as cool L.O.L but really in todays world with car guys trying to beat gas prices and still drive a cool car it aint bad. beside alot of these uglies share a common other than being ugly that is, alot of them are economy cars like the mini and the pacer which reminds me when i was a kid my dad had one at his car lot and we took it out one night and were yelling "pigs in space" like on the muppet show! that was fun ( good times)!!! any ways guess you had to be there.

Like I said, I love the real Mini from Austin/Morris/Leyland or Rover, but not the Riley Elf or Wolesley Hornet. I have lusted after the original for over a decade and would love to own even a rusty-but-complete example. I likely will search one out as my next project car build whenever the G body is done. The cool thing is BMH still builds new shells for them, so you can get a complete new body with no rust, made from the original stampings. BMH has been doing this for 20 years, predating repop Camaros by a long shot. They also sell new MG B and Midget shells as well as TR-6's. BL would send it's old presses to BMH when they discontinued the cars, thus allowing new parts to be built indefinitely by what was originally a division of BL.

Here's a MK I Mini where it belongs: On the Racetrack!
